Islamabad :
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has canceled its flights to Afghanistan due to the volatile security situation in the war-torn country and the huge crowd gatherings at the Kabul airport. This decision has been taken after consultation with Foreign Ministry & Afghan aviation authorities.
It is believed that videos and photos released on social media showed a mob of angry citizens running on the runway and climbing the steps of an American aviation plane.
Abdullah Hafeez said that Pakistan has suspended flights at Kabul Airport due to unstable security situation. He added that the decision was taken to ensure “safety of passengers, staff and assets”.
The spokesman said that the PIA had decided to increase its flights to Kabul to repatriate 900 Pakistanis and other foreigners, in view of which permission was sought from the Foreign Ministry to operate special flights.
However, the PI decided to suspend its flights to Kabul after the mob forcibly entered the runways and entrances of the planes, seized the passenger plane and prevented the American aviation plane from taking off.
