Boeing 777 long range aircraft will be used for two weekly flights from PIA Karachi and Lahore. A PIA spokesman told private TV channel ARY News that the agency had submitted an application to the Australian Aviation Authority for permission to land the aircraft. Only PIA will start its operation regularly.
Last month, PIA chief executive officer Arshad Malik had said that PIA had decided to operate direct flights to Australia, Maldives and Hong Kong. He said that work has been intensified on the planning of direct flights for these three countries, and also for direct air operations for Istanbul and Bangkok.
Arshad Malik said that talks were underway with European, British and American civil aviation for resumption of direct flights to UK, US and European countries. He said that AISA has called for an audit to operate flights to European countries and as soon as the audit is cleared, the flights will be restored.
The European Aviation Safety Agency wrote in a letter that it wants to come to Pakistan and audit both civil aviation and PIA. , The national airline is fully prepared for the audit, and is very hopeful that the sanctions will be lifted soon.
