Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said that Pakistan’s economic future is linked with Karachi and national security is linked with economic future while planning takes time.
During a press conference with Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi in Karachi, he said that after the approval of the Council of Common Interests, the target is to complete the census in early 2023 and after that the zoning was done.
Regarding Karachi, he said that the green line project would be activated by the end of October, adding that the project has been completed and 40 buses would reach the port by next week. The future is linked and the economic future is linked to national security as 50% of exports come from this industrial city.
Referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said that previous provincial governments did not do big work in Karachi so work on big projects is going on while some members of our cabinet had objected to investing so much money in Karachi.
Asad Umar termed Imran Khan as the champion of Karachi and said that 5 big projects of the federation are underway for this industrial city. It takes time to plan big projects. He said that the biggest problem of Karachi is water. The K4 project, which has been on hold for over a decade, despite strong differences, we took responsibility for the project and the design of the project will be finalized by October 28.
The Federal Minister said that work will resume in February 2022. The project has been transferred from Sindh government to WAPDA. According to WAPDA, water will be delivered to Karachi in October 2023. He criticized the provincial government and said that Karachi The work of carpeting and garbage collection is not the responsibility of the federation but of the provincial government.
