ISLAMABAD: Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Noor Alam Khan has recommended a reduction in petroleum prices in the country in view of declining prices in the global market.
Presiding over the PAC meeting, Chairman Noor Alam Khan while talking about the prices of petroleum products said that the price of petrol has come down in the global market. When the price is low in the world market, why is it not low in our country? When the price is higher in the world market, it goes up but does not go down.
Noor Alam Khan said that oil prices in the world market have come down twice while the government has increased prices instead of reducing them. The Ministry of Finance, Petroleum Division and the government are requested to provide relief to the people. He recommended a reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
Committee member Sheikh Rohail said that global oil prices have come down by Rs 50 per liter. The IMF is calling on the government to increase sales tax.
Noor Alam Khan said that NAB officers would have to give details of their assets. One department said that tomorrow is Eid, so they cannot come while Eid is on July 10.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said that this would be the NAB department, to which Noor Alam Khan said that it was the NAB. He directed the NAB officer to inform the NAB chairman to come to the committee tomorrow. NAB officers will have to provide details of their assets.
