The federal capital’s new local government system has been challenged in court. The Islamabad High Court issued notices to the President of Pakistan, Home Secretary and Law Secretary after the preliminary hearing. The petitioner contends that this system is against the law and unconstitutional.

Petitioner Sardar Mehtab said that direct election of mayor and removal of deputy mayors is against the law. In the presence of the 2015 law, the new system is unconstitutional through ordinances.
