ISLAMABAD: Nepra has approved a reduction of 4 rupees 87 paise in the per unit price of electricity for consumers on the request of K Electric.
During the fuel adjustment hearing of K Electric in the National Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), Chairman Nepra Tauseef H. Farooqui provided relief of more than 7 billion rupees to K Electric consumers.
In the August fuel adjustment by K Electric, it was proposed to reduce the cost of electricity by Rs 4 21 paise per unit, however, Nepra approved a reduction of Rs 4 87 paise per unit of electricity price for K Electric.
Nepra says that K Electric consumers will get relief of more than 7 billion 21 crore rupees.
According to Nepra officials, the cost of K Electric’s own power generation is Rs 38 per unit, while the cost of power purchased by K Electric is Rs 13.61 per unit.
During the hearing, Chairman Nepra asked what K Electric is doing to reduce the production cost of electricity, to which K Electric officials said that there is a program to increase production on renewable energy and gas to reduce production cost.
Chairman Nepra Tauseef H Farooqui said that K Electric is getting Rs 24 per unit cheaper electricity from production, K Electric should tell the regulator about its steps to increase its cheaper production.
Meanwhile, Nepra’s case officer said that the government is subsidizing Rs 15 per unit tariff.
