LAHORE: The Accountability Court of Lahore acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Principal Secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad, his wife and brother from the reference of making illegal assets.
The accountability court heard the plea of acquittal in the reference against Fawad Hasan Fawad. The court accepted the plea of acquittal after hearing the arguments of the lawyers. The court acquitted Fawad Hassan Fawad, his wife Rabab Hassan, brother Waqar Hassan and his close friend Dr. Anjum Hassan due to insufficient evidence and corruption charges not being proved.
It may be recalled that NAB had arrested Fawad Hasan Fawad in 2018, filed a reference against Fawad Hasan Fawad and other family members, alleging that Fawad had made assets in excess of his income.
NAB had charged Fawad Hasan Fawad with allegedly making assets worth Rs 1 billion 62 crore illegally. No recourse was taken to the NAB Amendment Bill in this case, but acquittal was obtained on merit under the old law.
A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court granted Fawad Hasan Fawad’s bail and ordered his immediate release. Fawad Hasan Fawad retired on completion of his employment during the reference hearing against him.
