Lahore: Considering the political importance of Punjab, the Muslim League (N) proved yesterday that it is not ready to lose this most important throne, however, holding on to it in any case may have a heavy political cost.
According to media reports, the controversial victory of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s son Hamza Shehbaz against Pervez Elahi, the joint candidate of PTI and Muslim League (Q) in the election of the Chief Minister, has caused an increase in the already chaotic political environment and instability. Pakistan is desperately trying to get out of it.
The move also shows how eager the ruling coalition is to not let go of Punjab, where it wants to retain control to execute its political strategies in the coming days.
The Muslim League (N) adopted almost the same strategy in the Provincial Assembly yesterday as the PTI had adopted in the National Assembly in April, the no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan was rejected by the then Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri. It is possible that the decision of the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly will also have to be decided by the Supreme Court.
After the defeat by the PTI in Sunday’s by-elections, the Muslim League (N) decided there was no more room for morality in politics, with the Sharif family apparently using their 80-plus years to defeat their relatively new political rival, Imran Khan. Adopted the political strategy of the 90s.
Imran Khan bestowed titles like ‘thieves’ and ‘robbers’ on his political rivals in the by-election campaign, the latest ploy by PML-N and PPP seems to have given the PTI chairman more new titles. The opportunity to reward has definitely been found.
Although there have been voices in the PML-N to adopt a policy of conciliation, opposing this idea, the party has supported giving a ‘proper answer’ to Imran Khan, who believes that answering bricks with stones is the only way to do it. It is the only way to deal with ‘fitna’.
PML-N chief Maryam Nawaz, her daughter, had accepted her party’s defeat in the by-elections with aplomb, but yesterday she changed tactics when in a tweet she signaled a befitting reply to the opposition. .
He wrote in his tweet that the Muslim League (N) has not forgotten the treatment done to them, now the rules of the game will be the same for everyone, otherwise the Muslim League (N) knows how to play it well.
According to observers, this was an indication that the leadership of the Muslim League (N) is determined to complete the term of its government till the general elections in August next year.
Speaking to Dawn, a senior PML-N leader tried to justify the Deputy Speaker’s decision yesterday by saying that the ruling coalition cannot afford to lose Punjab.
He said that “Losing Punjab means allowing the opposition alliance to wrest the federation from our hands. We carried the burden left by Imran Khan’s government, took tough economic decisions and paid the price in the by-elections.”
He said that we cannot bear to pay the price for the bad economic decisions of the previous government while Imran Khan does not suffer any loss.
The ruling coalition also wants the full support of the establishment to fix the economy and for this they need a ‘green signal’ to rein in Imran Khan.
Federal Ministers like Rana Sanaullah, Maryam Aurangzeb, Saad Rafiq and Javed Latif have started raising their voice openly on this demand after the defeat in the by-elections.
They are also urging the Election Commission to give an urgent decision on the prohibited funding case against Imran Khan and his party, believing that sending Imran Khan behind bars would help the economy to recover in a conducive environment.
