The Sindh Chief Minister, while deciding to launch an operation against water theft in Sindh, said that distribution of water was the real problem, for which old water supply pipes would have to be replaced.
A meeting of the Water Board was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah during which a briefing was given on the ongoing water crisis in Sindh including Karachi. It was informed in the meeting that the city of Karachi needs 1000 MGD of water while the supply is 580 MGD but there are 174 MGD line losses according to which 406 MGD water is being supplied.
It was informed in the meeting that the line laid in the city is very old due to which water is wasted and there are some areas where water is provided after many days. During the meeting, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that water distribution was the real issue for which old water supply pipes had to be replaced.
The Chief Minister Sindh has decided to give full funding to the KWSB scheme in the new financial year 23-2022 and has issued orders to expedite the work on the scheme. He directed the KWSB to come up with a detailed plan for water distribution. The Sindh Chief Minister also directed the Water Board to improve its management system and decided to launch an operation against water theft. The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, Nasir Shah, Chief Secretary, Administrator KMC, Chairman P&D, Principal Secretary, Secretary Local Government, Special Assistant Waqar Mehdi, Najmi Alam, MD Water Board, former MD Water Board.
