New Delhi: The Indian Ministry of Defense has expressed regret over a missile that “accidentally” entered Pakistan’s airspace.
According to an NDTV report, Indian officials said the missile landed on March 9 in the Mian Channu area of Pakistan’s Khanewal district due to a “technical glitch”.
The ministry said in a statement that on March 9, 2022, a missile accidentally fired due to a technical glitch during routine maintenance, it is learned that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan.
The statement further said that the government has given serious consideration and has ordered a high level investigation. The Indian ministry said the incident was “extremely tragic” but also “satisfactory” that no casualties were reported.
It may be recalled that the Director General (DG) of Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar had said in a press briefing yesterday that on March 9, at 6:33 am, they entered Pakistani territory from India. An ‘item’ that occurred violated airspace.
Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the Air Force officer, while giving a briefing on the violation of Indian airspace, had said that the Pakistan Air Force had fully monitored the suspicious ‘item’ which remained in Pakistani airspace for 3 minutes and a few seconds.
