Lahore:
Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Representative for Religious Harmony, Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, has said that in view of the announcement of Eid, the decision of the Ruyet -e-Hilal Committee was absolutely correct and said that there was no need for the nation to observe fast in this regard. Because Thursday was the first Shawwal and it is wrong to say that the announcement of the moon was not correct.
It should be noted that a large number of people in Pakistan were hoping for 30 days this Ramadan while Eid was expected on May 14. On the other hand, the final announcement of the Eid moon by the Ruwit-e-Hilal Committee was made after 11 pm on May 12, which sparked a new discussion on social media.
After this, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, former chairman of Ruyet-e-Hilal Committee and a prominent religious scholar, had requested the nation to observe one-day qadha. He said he had been crying all night over the (allegedly) controversial decision of the Ruwit-e-Hilal Committee.
Mufti Muneeb further said that no minister in our meeting had the courage to sit down. I bequeath to all Muslims to observe one day of qadha and one day of i’tikaaf while fasting.
During the Eid prayers today, Mufti Muneeb said that he would make up the missed fasts on Friday, May 14, and told the people that they could make up the missed fasts anytime in the summer or winter before the next month of Ramadan.
In response, Maulana Tahir Ashrafi said that the fast has not been made up and there is no need to repeat the one-day I’tikaf. In proof of this, he has also shared a picture of Shawwal.
