Landslide on Karakoram Highway has cut off ground communication between Gilgit and Rawalpindi. The Karakoram Highway has been closed to all traffic due to landslides. Area police said that road maintenance work could not be carried out at night.
According to details, regarding the landslide on Karakoram Highway, the local police said that a motorcyclist was killed in a landslide near Kohistan Kamila. According to Gilgit-Baltistan Police Station, Karakoram Highway has been closed for all types of traffic due to landslides.
Area police said that road maintenance work could not be carried out at night, adding that highway maintenance work would be started in the morning. Passengers are facing severe difficulties due to closure of Karakoram Highway. It should be noted that clouds fell in different cities of the country including Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. , More than 70 feeders tripped in Lahore.
Weather forecasters have predicted a series of winter rains. Snowfall in the upper areas increased the severity of the cold. On the other hand, intermittent rains and snowfall are continuing in different parts of Balochistan due to which Quit Chaman Highway as well as Zhob Highway was closed at Kan Mehtarzai. The Pakistan Army stands by the local administration in the face of heavy rains and floods in Gwadar, the economic hub of Balochistan. Rescue operations by Pakistan Army and PDMA relief teams are underway in Pasni to assess the damage caused by the rains and to assist the district administration, while Army helicopters are being used for the rescue operation, which is aimed at remote areas. The basic needs of the affected areas are to be provided as soon as possible.
Along with the PDMA, the Pakistan Army also came to the rescue of the civilians. Helicopters provided tents and food items to the flood victims in the low lying areas of Pasni, Gwadar. On the other hand, floods in Ketch district of Balochistan stopped after the catastrophic rains, but normalcy could not be restored.
It may be recalled that the torrential rains severely affected several areas of Ketch, damaged several houses and washed away roads in many areas. Moreover, the Balochistan government has also decided to declare Gwadar and Ketch as disaster-hit districts.
