Karachi :
Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the local government system of Karachi should be independent like the capital of Iran Tehran. Despite international sanctions, the Iranian capital, Tehran, is a state-of-the-art city.
The Prime Minister said that the biggest obstacle to Iran’s development is the sanctions imposed by the world powers, yet Tehran, the capital of Iran, is a modern city. The city raises 500 million a year, but Karachi barely raises 20 million.
On the occasion of inauguration of Green Line Bus Project in Karachi, the Prime Minister said that no modern city is complete without modern means of transportation. In the past, no one paid attention to Karachi’s transport system.
The Prime Minister said that there would be a city in every country that runs the country. When Karachi is prosperous then Pakistan is prosperous. To make Karachi happy for Pakistan means that we are making Pakistan prosperous. More than tax is received from Karachi but it did not get anything. I have been watching Karachi for 60 years, we have seen this city of lights becoming a ruin because we have never paid attention to the administrative system of Karachi.
Referring to Quaid-e-Azam, the Prime Minister added that the biggest obstacle to Iran’s development is the sanctions imposed by the world powers, yet Tehran, the capital of Iran, is a modern city. The city raises 500 million a year, but Karachi hardly raises even 20 million. Local elections are coming up in the province, and Karachi, like London and Tehran, needs to be given autonomy.
The Prime Minister said that most attention is being paid to solve the water problem in Karachi. K4 will be launched next month. It is hoped that this project will be completed in 2023 and Karachi will get additional water from Kenjhar Lake.
The Prime Minister said that all the research shows that one disease makes the whole house indebted, that is why I had decided that whenever Allah gave me the opportunity, I would start a comprehensive health plan. All families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have received health insurance, which will cover up to Rs 1 million per year. By March 2022, every citizen of Punjab will have health insurance. The people of Sindh should also have health insurance. I ask the Sindh government to contribute to health insurance.
