ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Home Secretary to take up the issue of missing persons with the new federal cabinet.
The petitions filed for the recovery of Mudassar Naro and other missing persons were heard. Chief Justice Athar Minallah summoned the Home Secretary in person at the next hearing.
The latest report of the Commission on Enforced Disappearances has been submitted to the court. The Islamabad High Court has sought suggestions from judicial assistants and other parties.
The Islamabad High Court remarked that the federal government was being given an opportunity to formulate a policy, with the Home Secretary taking instructions from the federal government on enforced disappearances.
Col. (retd) Inam-ur-Rehman told the court that the March 31 commission report that 76 people went missing in March and the process is still going on. Present
Mudassar Naro’s mother told the court that he had not read the law but if there was a thief, he would be granted bail. Contact the family and submit a report to the court regarding the recovery of Mudassar Naro.
Deputy Attorney General Syed Tayyab Shah requested for three weeks to submit the reply. The court talked to the registrar of the commission that first you have to come to them with sympathy in your action then you should reach them yourself.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the Commission on Enforced Disappearances must satisfy the families of the missing persons. If there is information then why the Home Secretary did not see it, whatever it is, these are your courts.
The court sought a report from the federal government on the Federal Task Force on Missing Persons and adjourned the case till May 17.
