On the social networking site Twitter, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has strongly condemned the attack by Hindu extremists on the wearing of hijab by Muslim students in the Indian state of Karnataka.
Fawad Chaudhry said that what is happening in Narendra Modi’s India is horrible, wearing hijab is like any other personal choice. He said that citizens should have freedom in choosing hijab. In Karnataka, the government has banned Muslim female students from wearing hijab in educational institutions, which has provoked outrage among others, including Muslim female students.
The Karnataka government has closed all educational institutions in the state for three days after strong reactions to the decision. On the other hand, a signature campaign was launched in Mumbai against the Karnataka government’s decision in which thousands of Muslim students and women Attended and recorded their protest.
