Karachi : The torrential rains that started at night in ‘Karachi are still continuing due to which most parts of the city were submerged while the main highways started looking like a pond.
According to the Meteorological Department, the rains may continue till the evening of July 12.
Heavy rains along with high winds continue on Gulzar-e-Hijri Super Highway. Citizens are facing difficulties due to accumulation of water on the road from Gurmundar to Lasbela. Water is available on MA Jinnah Road, Stadium Road, II Chandragar Road while rain water has accumulated in Urdu Bazaar, Jamia Cloth Market and Kharadar.
Rain water has entered the markets of Old City Area, rain water is still available at Light House, KMC Head Office and Burns Road while rain water has also accumulated around Shaheen Complex, PIDC and Sindh Assembly.
According to the traffic police, the road has been closed for traffic due to accumulation of rain water on Shara Faisal Karsaz while the citizens coming and going to the airport are facing severe problems. The traffic coming out of the airport is being diverted from Jinnah Out to Jinnah and from Al Shifa to Star Gate.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 119.5 mm was recorded in Bes Masroor while 113.5 mm was recorded in Quaidabad.
According to unofficial meteorologist Jawad Memon, continuous rain clouds from the Arabian Sea are moving towards the city while clouds from Thatta, Badin and Kati Bandar continue to come.
According to Jawad Memon, it may continue to rain for another 2-3 hours in the city and intermittent rain is likely till tomorrow evening.
An unofficial meteorological analyst said that the low pressure of the monsoon is present in the Arabian Sea near the sea of Balochistan, while there is a circulation in the lower Indus near Sindh and Gujarat. The monsoon system receives constant moisture from the Arabian Sea.
