The presidential reference for interpretation of Article 63A was heard in the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandial remarked that the purpose of Article 63A is to ensure loyalty to the party and disqualification is trivial.

During the hearing of the case, Justice Muneeb Akhtar remarked that non-observance of oath is dishonest, cancer starts destroying body cells, deviation from party is also called cancer.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawyer Farooq H Naik said that Article 63A was included in the constitution in the 14th Amendment in which the party chief had wide powers. The powers of the party head have been reduced. The power to decide on the reference of Article 63A has been given to the Election Commission in the 18th Amendment.
Farooq H Naik said that the reason for non-reference under Article 63A is flexibility in politics, which leads to severe anarchy.
Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan remarked that there was no expiration date in Article 62F which was interpreted by the Supreme Court. Given that Article 63A on four occasions has made loyalty conditional on party policy, loyalty is the basic constitutional principle, the court has to look at the constitution as a whole.
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel remarked that severe punishment like disqualification cannot be given without trial. Lawyer Farooq Naik said that the court cannot unite horse and donkey on which Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan remarked that political parties are the backbone of parliamentary system.
