Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb has said that the government has decided to revive NACTA to eradicate terrorism and is reviewing the National Action Plan.
Criticizing former Prime Minister Imran Khan during his speech in the National Assembly, the Information Minister said that due to the stubbornness, ego and arrogance of one person, NACTA was ignored for four years. Incidents of terrorism are on the rise again.
He said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has presided over 8 meetings on terrorism and he was liaising with the provinces and federal units as he did not have any problem of stubbornness, ego and arrogance.
Responding to the points raised by Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and Dr Fehmida Mirza during the National Assembly session, Federal Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb said that terrorism was re-emerging inside Pakistan.
He said that no meeting of the National Anti-Terrorism Authority had been convened in the last four years, adding that NACTA was chaired by the Prime Minister.
He said that former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had given the first security policy in 2014, after which a national action plan was formulated.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that the former prime minister had not consulted the provinces on polio, terrorism and other important issues.
He said that the incidents of terrorism had come down due to the strategy of the previous PML-N government but unfortunately the PTI government had stopped the work of infrastructure and financial and coordination.
He said that four cases of polio have been reported in North Waziristan. The Chief Minister of Sindh has said on record that when he spoke to the Prime Minister about polio, he was told that it was a waste of time.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that due to the negligence of the former government, the incidents of terrorism are on the rise again today. The government will work with the entire nation, the four provinces and law enforcement agencies to eradicate terrorism.
He said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had held his first meeting on counter-terrorism, the Home Minister has been directed to convene a meeting of NACTA and a meeting in this regard would be held next week.
At the end of his speech, he highlighted that in order to make a strong statement globally, we must first fix our home and strengthen the country’s infrastructure to fight terrorism.
