Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his US counterpart had a telephone conversation in which they discussed the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan and agreed to continue contacts to promote common goals and peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan.
According to details, a statement issued by the Foreign Office Spokesperson said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had a telephone conversation with his US counterpart in which the two leaders discussed the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi highlighted the importance of a comprehensive political settlement and outlined Pakistan’s vision for avoiding violence, including a change in the situation, and said Pakistan would remain in touch with the international community in support of a peaceful Afghanistan.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining US economic ties with Afghanistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi briefed the US Secretary of State on facilitating the evacuation of the diplomatic mission. Meanwhile, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue contacts to promote common goals.
Yesterday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had a meeting with a delegation of Afghan leaders. The meeting discussed the situation in Afghanistan. Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said that our goal is a peaceful, united, democratic, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. Hopefully, together we can move peace and reconciliation forward. The international community is supportive of the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister said that the Afghan leadership must seize this historic opportunity, pave the way for a comprehensive political solution to Afghanistan, comprehensive dialogue is the only way to a peaceful political solution to the Afghan problem.
