Islamabad :
According to details, Shaukat Tareen has a few days left in his tenure as Federal Minister. His term will expire on October 16. It is also being said that Shaukat Tareen will be taken back from his current post and made Finance Advisor. ۔
According to media reports, a legally unelected person can remain a federal minister for only six months, for which reason Shaukat Tareen will be removed from his current post and made a financial adviser. However, Shaukat Tareen could not chair various committees as an advisor, nor would he be able to chair cabinet committees, including the ECC.
It has been reported that the government has decided to elect Shaukat Tareen as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however, it has not been decided yet from which senator to resign to make Shaukat Tareen a member of the Senate.
According to sources, the Prime Minister has started consultations with senior party leaders regarding the issue. On the other hand, there are reports that Hamad Azhar should be temporarily given the post of Federal Minister of Finance until Shaukat Tareen becomes the Federal Minister again.
It may be recalled that the government had planned to de-seat former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and elect Shaukat Tareen to his seat. However, Ishaq Dar went to the Supreme Court to save his Senate seat. It became difficult for the government to elect Shaukat Tareen as a senator from the Punjab seat.
Now, due to this situation, preparations are being made to elect Shaukat Tareen as a senator from PTI stronghold Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It may be recalled that during an interview a few days ago, Shaukat Tareen had also expressed the belief that Prime Minister Imran Khan would definitely make him a senator.
