The federal cabinet approved the NAB ordinance for extension of the term of the chairman NAB which was given through circulation. Sources said that the federal cabinet approved the amendments to the NAB ordinance through circulation summary. An ordinance is likely to be issued by the President.
According to sources, the draft ordinance is likely to be sent to President Arif Ali by this evening and the ordinance is likely to be issued by the President today. On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the opposition for the appointment of NAB chairman I will not consult the leader.
The main points of the ordinance prepared by the government for the appointment of NAB chairman have come to light. The existing clause of consultation between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition will remain. The name of Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal will also be considered for the new NAB chairman. And if there are allegations against the opposition leader, the chairman will not be able to participate in the appointment of NAB
The Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition will hold consultations on the issue of Chairman NAB. If there is no agreement, the matter will go to a parliamentary committee. If there is a deadlock in the talks, the current chairman, Javed Iqbal, will remain in office.
According to the ordinance, to remove the chairman NAB, one has to approach the Supreme Judicial Council. The provision of not extending the chairman NAB was removed through the ordinance. NAB courts also got the power to grant bail to the accused before 90 days. Additional Sessions Judges and former judges can now be appointed in NAB courts.
The Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan has confirmed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will consult the Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif. And the opposition will have six representatives, the parliamentary committee will appoint the speaker, the senate will also be represented.
