Karachi: The Sindh High Court has asked the Election Commission to hold elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.
In hearing the requests of Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI for early local elections in Sindh, a two-member bench of the Sindh High Court ordered the Rangers and IG Sindh to submit a report on the total number of personnel.
The lawyer of the Election Commission stated that the meeting of the Election Commission should be held and then the hearing should be held. Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh remarked that we have nothing to do with the meeting, elections should be held in Karachi and Hyderabad.
Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh inquired which police goes in flood? Tell me what the police are doing to the flood victims? What is the duty of the police? Name one village where the police has conducted an operation for the flood victims. What is the total population in Sindh? Tell me where the police are stationed?
Justice Yusuf Ali Syed inquired why they are adjourning again and again. Have a security problem? The Chief Justice remarked that why are elections not being held in Karachi and Hyderabad? It is your responsibility to conduct the election. The lawyer of the Election Commission stated that the meeting could not be held yesterday due to the holiday. The Chief Justice remarked that this Election Commission was not a school holiday, so what happened? The meeting could be held.
The court expressed indignation and said that it is enough for you to conduct elections. The Chief Justice inquired that where are the reports of IG Sindh and DG Rabjars? The lawyer of the Election Commission stated that the Sindh government has requested that the police is engaged in the security of the relief activities of the flood victims.
The Advocate General requested for more respite. The Chief Justice remarked that we will not give much time, we want an immediate report. Ordered the DG Rabjars and IG Sindh to submit a report on the total number of personnel.
Usman Farooq Advocate stated that the DG Rangers should be summoned so that a proper report can come out. The court remarked that DG Rangers and IG Sindh should appear themselves or depute a senior officer. The Election Commission submitted the answer. In the reply, it was said that the meeting could not be held due to the holiday of November 9. Now the meeting of all stakeholders will be held on November 15.
Interior Secretary, IG Sindh, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui were informed. Chief Secretary Sindh, Imran Khan and Hafiz Naeemur Rehman have also been invited to attend. The court adjourned the hearing till November 14.
