Islamabad: The Election Commission has decided to hold local elections in Punjab in the last week of April.
In the meeting presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner, it was decided to conduct the local elections in Punjab in the last week of April. The meeting was informed in the briefing that the Election Commission is going to conduct local elections for the third time. Till now, the rules and maps of the Local Government Act have not been provided, on which the Election Commission directed the Punjab government to provide the copy of the rules and maps to the Provincial Election Commissioner and the District Election Commissioners.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that if there is any further change in the law, local government elections will be held using the constitutional authority. Municipal elections could not be held in Punjab due to delay tactics.
