Teachers in more than 400 educational institutions in Islamabad have boycotted classes in schools and sent their children home. Teachers said that these are model institutions and an example for the whole country. If it goes, the education sector will suffer.

The Federal Government Education Joint Action Committee has announced closure of all educational institutions in the federal capital Islamabad as a protest against the subordination of educational institutions to the Municipal Corporation under the Local Government Ordinance.
The chairman of the Federal Government Education Joint Action Committee said that the government had made all educational institutions subordinate to the mayor of the local body through an ordinance. There are fears that the civil government status of the employees will be abolished and the institutions may become private. There is a fear of political interference in the educational institutions. From tomorrow, children will not be educated. Teachers and non-teaching staff will protest in the institutions.

Fazal Mulla, chairman of the Federal Government Education Joint Action Committee, said: “We cannot risk the lives of millions of children. This is tantamount to killing 20,000 peaceful employees of the federal education department at night.” “It is not acceptable for us to divide the employees and bring them under the corporation,” he added.
