Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, PTI Deputy Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi denied the opposition’s claim that the controversial diplomatic letter was forged or prepared at the Foreign Office, calling it “authentic” and based on facts.
Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, Shah Mehmood Qureshi defended former Pakistani ambassador to the US Asad Majeed who had sent a controversial letter to the caretaker Prime Minister Imran Khan claiming US role in the opposition’s no-confidence vote. Called an experienced diplomat.
He also denied reports of Asad Majeed’s hasty transfer to Brussels (Belgium), saying that he had been given a new responsibility after completing his term as ambassador to the United States.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi asked the opposition to avoid any doubts about the qualifications and qualifications of the Foreign Office officers as they were serving the nation with utmost sincerity.
He said the diplomats at the Foreign Office were professionals and should not be unnecessarily criticized.
The PTI leader emphasized that his party believed in respect and supremacy of the constitution. He said that PTI was trying its best to rid the state institutions of politics and urged the opposition parties to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the decision of Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that PTI has recognized the right of the opposition to table a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister. However, when the Deputy Speaker came to know the facts, he said that the matter needed to be investigated and based on the information received he rejected the motion.
The PTI leader said that the Supreme Court would decide whether Qasim Suri’s decision was constitutional or not, however, he claimed that the deputy speaker had not issued the order without any reason.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the National Security Committee (NSC) after reviewing the whole matter has decided to issue a demarcation. He said that the NSC has no decision to issue demarcation. There must be a reason.
He criticized the decision of the opposition parties to boycott the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, which was called by the Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser to raise the issue.
He said that the speaker had invited all the parliamentary leaders but the members of the opposition did not come. He said that the members of the opposition should have attended the meeting and raised questions there.
The PTI leader said that the diplomats met the people but it was necessary to know who the diplomats met in the country, some meetings were held abroad and it was also necessary to study these meetings.
He said the court could order the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the matter.
Talking to media, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar said that in view of the current political situation, announcing new elections is the wisest decision of Imran Khan and asked other political parties to join PTI in the elections.
