KARACHI: The Sindh Chief Minister has ordered to deploy a special force for maintaining peace during the local body elections.
A review meeting of the arrangements for the local body elections was held at the Chief Minister’s House in which the situation of peace in the province during the elections was considered.
The Sindh Chief Minister directed the Police Department to deploy Quick Reaction Force (QRF) in case of any emergency. In addition, show restraint while maintaining law and order during the local body elections to be held on June 26, 2022 in 14 districts of 4 divisions.
He directed the Home Department to enforce Section 144 against display of arms during local body elections. The meeting was attended by IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh Fayyaz Jatoi, Home Secretary Saeed Manganijo, Commissioner Karachi Iqbal Memon, Additional IG Karachi Javed Odho and concerned DIGs.
In addition, commissioners of Mirpur Khas, Larkana, Sukkur and Mirpur Khas divisions attended the meeting via video link. The Sindh Chief Minister asked the divisional administration and the police to meet the political parties and groups contesting the elections and take them into confidence regarding the code of conduct.
The Chief Minister Sindh was informed that there are 8724 polling stations in all the 14 districts out of which 1985 has been declared as highly sensitive, 3448 as sensitive and 3291 as normal. On this, the Sindh Chief Minister directed the concerned commissioners and police to talk to the candidates and their party leadership so that they can control their supporters and workers.
IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon informed the Sindh Chief Minister that 26545 police personnel would be deployed at the polling stations in view of sensitivity. 1985 9925 police personnel will be on duty at the most sensitive polling stations, 10344 at 3448 sensitive polling stations and 6276 personnel will be on duty at 3291 normal polling stations.
As per the directive of Sindh Chief Minister, 10644 personnel of Quick Reaction Force (QRF) will be deployed, hence the total number of personnel to be deployed will be 37189.
IG Police said that 4287 ladies police force is also being arranged for election duty. The Sindh Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to review the arrangements to avoid any trouble. Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the IG police to mobilize CCTV-installed vehicles in the polling areas so that the activities could be closely monitored.
