ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial has remarked during the hearing of the case that Article 62 (1) (f) of lifelong disqualification is a black law.
A 3-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan heard the petition filed in the Supreme Court against the lifelong disqualification of Faisal Vawda. Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said that Article 62 1F of lifelong disqualification is a black law. During the hearing, lawyer Waseem Sajjad told the court that Faisal Vawda contested the elections in 2018 and after 2 years, a disqualification petition was filed in the High Court on his false affidavit.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the Election Commission has the authority to investigate false affidavits. Even if the Supreme Court annuls the Election Commission’s order of lifelong disqualification, the facts will remain the same. The Election Commission has properly reviewed the facts in the Faisal Vawda case.
Lawyer Farooq H. Naik told the court that the Islamabad High Court clearly stated in its judgment that Faisal Vawda recognized dual citizenship, to which the Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that the only question in this case is whether the Election Commission’s order of lifelong disqualification Can give or not. Will hear the case in detail.
Due to lack of time, the court adjourned the further hearing of the case till October 6.
