Lahore: Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Maryam Nawaz has again filed an application in the Lahore High Court for the return of her passport.
In the application, Maryam Nawaz has requested that the passport is with the Registrar’s Office of the High Court as per the court order, so far NAB has not been able to present the challan of Chaudhry Sugar Mill, the court granted the bail on merit.
It was argued in the petition that a person cannot be deprived of his fundamental right for a long time, the court should order the return of the passport.
Earlier on April 27, Maryam Nawaz had withdrawn the application related to withdrawal of passport to pay Umrah in Lahore High Court.
The withdrawal of Maryam Nawaz’s passport return petition came at a time when at least 4 benches were constituted to hear the petition, but all the judges in the benches had recused themselves from the case one after the other.
It should be noted that on November 4, 2019, a bench comprising Justice Ali Baqer Najafi and Justice Farooq Haider had approved Maryam’s post-arrest bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
However, the bench ordered her to surrender her passport as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) feared that she might flee the country.
Later, various petitions were filed by Maryam Nawaz to remove her name from ECL and get back the deposited passport in the court.
Maryam Nawaz’s position was adopted in the application that despite the punishment in the reference, Al-Azizia left her ailing mother and came back with her father from abroad, but the name was added to the ECL without hearing my position.
On December 28, 2019, the sub-committee of the cabinet looking into the ECL affairs rejected Maryam Nawaz’s request to allow her to go abroad.
In March last year, Maryam Nawaz said in one of her statements that until this government goes home and Imran Khan does not reach his logical end, even if the government keeps the passports and tickets in the tray and presents them. I will not go abroad.
