KARACHI: Bilqis Edhi, wife of prominent social leader and founder of Edhi Foundation Abdul Sattar Edhi, has passed away at the age of 74.
Bilqis Edhi has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for the past few days due to a heart condition. It may be recalled that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Karachi was accompanied by First Lady Tehmina Durrani and he also met Balqis Edhi at a private hospital.
He later tweeted on the social networking site that Bilqis cried for her late husband Edhi Sahib and tears came to my eyes for Bilqis, she is in a very bad mood.
Expressing grief over the demise of social leader Balqis Edhi, President Dr Arif Alvi said that she participated in social activities alongside her late husband Abdul Sattar Edhi.
On the other hand, Sindh Provincial Minister for Development and Women Shehla Raza had visited Balqis Edhi on the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Balqis Edhi.
Senator Faizal Javed also expressed sorrow over the demise of Balqis Edhi.
Senior journalist Musharraf Zaidi said, “Karachi is no longer the mother of orphans and the poor.”
