Why “pot protests” are a security challenge for the “Cradle of Democracy”?
Since a few days ago, in the northern 10th arrondissement of Paris, protesters poured into the streets with pots, pans, lids, metal colanders, and all kinds of spoons, the noise of these devices can be heard from all corners of the city.
According to The Guardian, the tradition of banging pots and pans in protest has been revived as angry Frenchmen raid kitchen cupboards to send a loud message to Macron, and ministers across the country are facing cookware.
Apparently, the French protestors have resorted to this tool to make their voice of protest heard by the government, and now the Macron government is trying to silence this voice by recording all the pots and pans, maybe it will end this democratic crisis.
Therefore, the French police have prohibited the protesters from using pots, pans and other metal containers. Earlier, the police had announced that they had ordered the confiscation of the protesters’ pots and pans. There have even been photos posted on social media of police officers ordering protesters to hand over their metal containers.
The frying pan ban drew ridicule from the president and the government, with a spokesman for the French Communist Party saying he did not expect to face a law banning the frying pan. “Sandrine Russo”, a prominent representative of the Green Party, also asked: “Can we overcome the democratic crisis by banning frying pans?”
Also, many media criticized the behavior of the police and Macron towards the protesters. An image that challenges the hegemony of France and Macron with the most basic tools and equipment.
