Unheard Voices Of Women, Feminicide In Europe.
In spite of the negative propaganda and Western media atmospheres about the growing trend of the ominous phenomenon of “cohabitation” in non-Western countries, the statistics reveal another reality, and that is the significant increase in the crisis in Europe itself.
According to estimates, one in seven women in Europe has been subjected to domestic violence by a husband, boyfriend or ex-husband, and in some cases, they have lost their lives because of the relationship.
In the upcoming report, we have focused on the case study of the European troika (France, Germany and England) and the Scandinavian countries centered on Sweden.
Nightmare in France; The murder of 118 women in 2022 alone
The crisis of “feminicide” in Europe; Why are women’s voices not heard?
Recently, the Ministry of the Interior of France announced that 118 women were killed by their husbands or ex-husbands in this apparently civilized European country in 2022; Statistics show that in France, on average, one woman is killed every three days.
According to the French ministry, out of 118 cases of femicide, 37 women were violently abused by their husbands or ex-husbands, 24 of whom reported the fact to the police. Also, 16 of them had complained to the police on their behalf.
In response to the question, “What issues caused the killing of these women?” It should be said that disagreements and arguments (26%) and refusal to separate (23%) are the main motives for committing murder among couples.
It should be noted that most of these incidents happen in the home of the couple, that is, the victim or the criminal (87 percent), and most of the cases are unplanned. In many of these cases, cold weapons (43%) and in some cases firearms (20%) are used.
Last year’s research (2022) by the French Ministry of the Interior showed that the profile of criminals has not changed compared to previous years: intentional murderers are married men, with French citizenship, aged 30 to 49 and unemployed. Men over 70 years old are in the next position of their spouse’s age classification.
Femicide in Germany; 139 women killed in 2020
The crisis of “feminicide” in Europe; Why are women’s voices not heard?
Women in Germany, the most industrialized European country, do not have a better situation than France, a country that considers itself to be the leader of democracy and morality. In 2019, it was reported that 117 women were murdered in Germany. In 2020, we saw an increase of 4.9 percent compared to the previous year, and 139 women were killed.
In the report of the human rights headquarters regarding violence against women in Germany, it is stated: that Germany has one of the highest rates of femicide in Europe. According to the statistics of the Federal Criminal Police Office in December 2021, the number of femicides continues to increase. German human rights activists condemn the police’s inability to take the murder of women seriously, as well as legal deficiencies in German law.
According to this report, the number of victims of domestic violence in Germany has increased by 3.4% in the last five years, and the majority of them are women. In Germany, one woman out of three experiences gender-based violence in her lifetime. Women who come to the police after being traumatized by gang violence are left without any protection against re-violence in two out of three cases.
Two UN agencies announced in a report that on average, in 2021, more than five women or girls will be killed by a family member every hour. According to a recent joint report of 11 UN-related bodies in November 2022, “Violence against women and girls remains the most pervasive human rights violation worldwide.”
Femicide in Scandinavia; 25 to 30 women are murdered in Sweden every year.
