For the umpteenth time in recent months, regional media have once again reported on Ankara officials’ efforts to contact Syria and resolve their differences, which has again been denied by Syrian sources.
In an interview with Al-Baath newspaper on Friday, informed Syrian sources denied the news of some media outlets and social networks that the head of the Syrian intelligence service, Ali Mamluk, met with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Moscow.
The sources said that the Turkish media had already published similar news and that Syria had been denied; They described the news as circulating in the Turkish media as the presidential election approached.
Last week, the Lebanese newspaper Madan quoted sources in the Turkish Justice and Development Party as saying that Syrian and Turkish intelligence and security officials had met in Moscow. According to the newspaper, only security issues were discussed during the meeting, and the purpose of the meeting was to implement agreements and understandings between Moscow and Ankara regarding Syria. The Lebanese newspaper explained that the reason for the meeting was Russia’s concerns about the consequences of the Ukrainian war on Syria.
