Foreign Policy: Erdogan’s Demands From EU.
In a report about the re-election of Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the president of Turkey and what steps Ankara can take during this period, the political magazine Foreign Policy wrote: Erdogan has two priorities: First, to draw a more ambitious plan for Turkey to succeed. He needs to strengthen himself in Western institutions, especially NATO and the European Union, which is his second goal. But it pursues this active role in world politics not with the US centrality and interests, but for its own interests.
To achieve these goals, he will intensify his extensive relations with Russia. Erdogan’s message to the West is this: Turkey is the only state that can contain Russia. Both by selling the Bayraktar drone and by understanding about the grain corridor, it has taken serious steps in this direction.
Three demands that Erdogan can have from the West
On the other hand, Erdogan showed that he intends to play an important role in the crisis of Serbia and Kosovo. Erdogan will take the necessary steps to promote stability in the region and continue to influence the European Union by blocking the passage of refugees.
Erdoğan also has demands in return for the actions he takes for the European Union: an end to accusations against Turkey that it is not democratic, the entry of European market capital into Turkey, and the removal of the visa requirement for Turkish citizens in the Schengen area.
Europe is now happy to re-elect Erdogan. The European Union has lined up to congratulate Erdogan’s victory.
