Double game of US for human rights and democracy.
The Ukraine crisis, which began on March 26 last year with a Russian invasion of the Eastern European country, is still going on for more than two months, and now the battle on the eastern front of Ukraine is intensifying; A war that has so far reached 6 million refugees, and no doubt, if it wears out, the crisis will increase significantly.
In the eyes of many observers, the root of the Ukraine crisis must be sought in the extravagance of the United States and its European allies; The empty promises of the West about Kiev’s accession to the European Union and NATO, as well as the expansion of this military alliance to the east of the Green Continent, ended in a war that, if deepened, some would not rule out the outbreak of World War III.
The bitter irony of the story, however, is the double standard of the United States in supporting democracy and human rights in Ukraine and the Middle East, and this behavioral contradiction is not far from the eyes of the world media and the people of different countries.
In this connection, the analytical website “Responsible State Craft” (responsible governance) affiliated with the Quincy Institute, in a report entitled “Obvious contradictions of US policy in Ukraine and the Middle East” addressed this issue, parts of which will be continued.
By sending weapons to Europe, Washington is helping them fight for democracy, which, by supporting authoritarian Arab rulers in the Middle East, is helping to violate human rights and defeat freedom struggles in those countries. On the one hand, the Biden government is arming Ukraine and, on the other hand, it is equally avoiding a direct military confrontation with Russia.
Because the Ukraine war has had a significant impact on the political and economic affairs of the Middle East, public opinion in the Middle East has always seen such clear contradictions in Biden’s approach to the two regions of the world.
Biden has spilled billions of dollars on various weapons to help President Volodymyr Zelinsky. In the Middle East, on the other hand, Washington has sold billions of weapons to Arab dictators, despite its brutal record of human rights abuses and repression of civil liberties.
The Biden government has always supported freedom of choice and the values that are enshrined in the global context in Ukraine, but for political reasons has refused to extend the same cover of choice and freedom to the Middle East. During the Ukraine crisis, Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken sought to persuade Washington’s closest allies and largest recipients of American weapons in the region to condemn Putin’s actions. The White House, as a reward for supporting the region’s Arab allies, has turned a blind eye to the demands of the people of these countries for justice and freedom.
