America’s concern about the death of the Saudi king.
An American news website wrote in a report on the concerns of Western countries, especially the United States, about the day after the death of the Saudi king.
In a report on the situation of the Saudi government, the Business Insider news website wrote that the members of the allegiance delegation, who must pledge allegiance to the new king and confirm him, have low loyalty to the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and this issue worries Western countries about the future. The Saudi government has become the current king in the event of the death of Salman bin Abdulaziz.
In this report, Business Insider discusses how power is transferred to the Saudi Crown Prince in the event of the death of a sick king and writes that during the last 68 years after the death of a king, his brother, one of the sons of “Abdul Aziz Al Saud” has been elected to succeed him. And it was Salman bin Abdulaziz who chose his son as his successor in 2017, and in a way violated the tradition and order of the founder of the Saudi dynasty.
According to the report, Muhammad ibn Salman has since begun to crack down on opponents of his monarchy, including imprisoning his uncle, Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, who was to become king according to Abdul Aziz’s will.
On the other hand, since Salman bin Abdulaziz came to the throne in 2015, rumors of his death have been circulating many times among diplomats and analysts. Of course, his exact health is not known, but the weakness of the 86-year-old king, who spends most of his time in the palace, is obvious.
But the transfer of power from Salman to his son will not be normal, unlike in the past, and the Crown Prince is scheduled to ascend the throne at the age of 36. “This is an important issue and therefore it is likely that Mohammed bin Salman will remain in office for a long time,” Christopher Hansel, a former charge d’affaires at the US embassy in Riyadh, told Business Insider.
According to this news website, the transfer of power between the king and his heir, although unexpected, will be fast and in accordance with the protocol and without tension, at least in appearance. After the king’s death, a series of common protocols take place. First, the official news agency announces the death, time and place of the funeral. Saudi television channels are following suit, suspending regular prayers and other programs.
The programs continue in such a way that the offices remain open and the flags are lowered and the allegiance ceremony with the new king begins. A ceremony in which princes and officials must congratulate the new king and kiss his right hand or shoulder to pay their respects. According to the governing constitution, part of the rite is that the new king pledges allegiance to the Council of Allegiance, a 34-member group representing the royal family.
