Behind the scenes of American maneuvers for the temporary suspension of sanctions on Syria.
Although the dramatic action of America in temporarily suspending some sanctions on Syria does not reduce the suffering and problems of the people of this country, but this decision was also made under the pressure of the world public opinion.
Although under normal circumstances when a natural disaster occurs anywhere in the world, it is expected that the first thing that all countries do is to help the victims away from political calculations and differences between governments; But what happened in relation to the great earthquake in Turkey and Syria and the kind of interaction that the international community had with it, shows the opposite of this.
This terrible earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 has so far left nearly 30,000 victims in two countries, and the fate of thousands of people under the rubble is unknown, and it is estimated that the death toll of this earthquake will increase significantly. Because there is no hope for the survival of other survivors under the rubble. Many compare this earthquake with the terrible earthquake in Pakistan in October 2005, which left more than 80 thousand dead.
But unfortunately, political games and calculations in this great human tragedy do not stop the bereaved people of Syria who have not yet been freed from the consequences of the terrorism crisis in 2011. Due to the US sanctions against Damascus with headlines such as “Caesar’s Law” and “Ceptagon Law”, the Syrian earthquake victims could not receive sufficient and effective aid in the early hours, which were considered the golden hours for rescuing people from the rubble, and this issue caused an increase in the number of human casualties. .
The saddest thing is that the Arab countries, especially the sheikhs of the Persian Gulf, in the first few days, focused all their attention on providing aid to Turkey and did not pay attention to the victims of the Syrian earthquake. Iran, Russia, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Algeria and several other Arab countries in Africa were the first countries that, regardless of the consequences of breaking the American blockade, began the work of providing relief to the victims of the Syrian earthquake using all available facilities.
But the Western countries and even the United Nations and its related institutions announced that there is no way to provide logistics and relief services to Syria due to the US sanctions, while the death toll from the earthquake in northern Syria continues to rise. Declaring that aid to earthquake victims should not be politicized, he emphasized: time is no longer gold for us and the golden time to save people has been lost, but in this situation, any delay in sending medicine or debris removal equipment will lead to more disasters.
