The United States is taking a “wait and see” approach to Iran!
A US official told the Jerusalem Post that the United States intends to refrain from making any hasty decisions before any steps taken by Iran.
As Iranian President-elect Seyed Ebrahim Ra’isi is due to formally take over as chief executive this week, US officials are closely monitoring the process, the Jerusalem Post reported, quoting the Jerusalem Post. They are in power transfer in Iran and are waiting to see how the new president of Iran will affect the process of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran for a bilateral return to nuclear deal.
The last round of talks ended six weeks ago on June 20, 2021, and since then, neither side has made plans to hold a new round of talks. However, according to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the process of negotiating with Iran to revive the 2015 nuclear deal “cannot continue indefinitely.”
“Washington is committed to diplomacy, but this process cannot continue indefinitely,” Blinken told a news conference in Kuwait.
“It is quite clear that there are more fundamental issues in Tehran that they are working on during the transition process,” a US official told the Jerusalem Post. It will affect the Vienna talks.
“The reason for [Washington’s] decision to pursue a bilateral return to the UN Security Council is that [Biden]’s government believes in it and that the government is determined to do it, and that this return is also for our partners,” he said. “And international security is the best [option].”
Emphasizing that provocative actions make the Vienna talks more difficult to achieve, he noted that “this complicates the talks and imposes a set of ambiguities that will not be very useful.”
