Armed violence over the weekend in the US state of Chicago left 67 dead and wounded.
11 people were killed and 56 were injured in weekend shootings in the United States.
Six people, including a 12-year-old girl and four teenagers, were injured in a shooting in the Austin neighborhood on Saturday.
According to state police, the teenagers were shot by a driver and the motive of the attacker has not been determined yet.
Also last Sunday, a 49-year-old man was killed in a shooting in a Chicago area. The man was talking to another person who had been shot.
Violence in Chicago, the third largest city in the United States, has increased significantly, CNN reported.
According to data released by the Chicago City Police, the shooting in this city has increased by 11% this year compared to last year.
Superintendent Brown said the new team would work with the ATF and the CPD firearms investigations unit on mid-level and upper-level gun trafficking investigations.
“The Gun Investigations Team will make our communities safer by identifying and apprehending those who are driving violence in our neighborhoods,” said Superintendent Brown. “By showing these gun traffickers and gun offenders there are consequences to their actions, we can hold them accountable and prevent further violent crimes from happening.”
Last week, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said a federal strike force will be in Chicago this week. The move will provide additional resources to support the ATF.
