The UAE official news agency reported, citing the cause of the explosion at the port of Jabal Ali, that the resulting fire was contained on a ship off the main seaport.
An hour after last night’s explosion in the port of Jabal Ali in Dubai, the country’s official news agency (Wam) reported that the explosion belonged to a container on the deck of a ship in the port of Jabal Ali.
Jabal Ali is one of the most important ports in the United Arab Emirates, located thirty-five kilometers from Dubai.
According to Wam, “The state media office in the Emirate of Dubai said that the relevant authorities had mastered the final stage of the fire, which broke out in a container on the deck of a flaming ship.” The ship was ready to dock at one of the ports of Jabal Ali Port, away from the main seaport. “The accident left no casualties.”
The UAE government media office in Dubai did not say how or what caused the explosion, which caused a container fire on the deck of a ship.
Other Emirati media outlets, such as the Al-Bayan newspaper, focused on controlling the fire without mentioning the cause of the explosion. The Al-Khaleej newspaper also wrote that the government’s information office in Dubai tweeted in two tweets that the fire, which was “caused by the explosion of a container of a ship in the port of Jabal Ali,” was contained within 40 minutes.
Al-Bayan gave more details and wrote: Dubai Police Chief Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Marri said the fire broke out on the deck of a small container ship with a capacity of 130 containers, but the fire was contained.
According to al-Bayan, Muni Ghanem al-Marri, director general of the government’s information office in Dubai, also said, “Rapid and immediate movement prevented people from being injured … Investigations are underway to find the cause [of the incident].”
“The media was quick to spread the news so that the rumors would not spread,” Ms. Al-Marri said. “And the incident should be reflected as it was.”
According to the government official, “the ship’s crew was evacuated at the right time and [other] ships in the port were not damaged in the aftermath.”
Brigadier General Rashid Thani al-Matroushi, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Emirate Civil Defense Forces, also announced that the fire was completely contained, saying that the cooling process was underway.
Al-Bayan concluded that Jabal Ali port officials said that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure the passage of ships naturally.
Last night, the media reported a horrific explosion in Dubai, and moments later, it was reported that the explosion was related to the port of Jabal Ali. Some sources said the blast took place near the Clubhouse area. Initial reports indicated that oil tanks in the port were being targeted. “It is said that the port of Jabal Ali also hosts an American-owned air base.”
The incident came a day after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates clashed over rising oil production and exports at the OPEC Plus oil summit near fuel tanks.
