Islamabad :
According to sources, in a statement regarding the FATF’s decision to keep Pakistan on the “gray list”, the Foreign Minister said that it has to be decided whether the FATF is a technical forum or a political one. It is also important to see that this forum is not being used for political purposes. He said that as far as technical aspects are concerned, we have been given 27 points and he himself is acknowledging that 26 out of 27 points we have fully implemented them.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that in my view, in such a situation, there is no room for Pakistan to remain on the gray list. He said that “some forces want the sword to hang over the head of Pakistan, I also made it clear. I think it is important to take whatever steps we take in our own interest. “
“It is in our interest that there should be no money laundering. Pakistan’s intention is to curb the financing of terrorism,” he said.
The Foreign Minister clarified that we will continue to do what is in the interest of Pakistan. It should be noted that the Financial Action Task Force had announced yesterday that Pakistan’s name will continue to be on the ‘gray list’. In a press conference after the meeting, FATF President Marcus Player said that Pakistan would remain under surveillance, adding that the Pakistani government had done a good job in strengthening and effective anti-terrorism financing system.
