The United Nations has announced a 90-day exemption for Taliban negotiators to advance Afghanistan’s peace talks.
The UN Security Council has announced that it has exempted Taliban negotiators in Doha from sanctions for another 90 days.
The UN Security Council has taken this decision in support of Afghanistan’s peace efforts.
UNAMA called the Taliban negotiators’ quarterly exemption from UN sanctions a “temporary exception to the peace” and hoped the opportunity would be used to make significant progress in Afghanistan’s peace talks.
Meanwhile, Deborah Lions, the UN special envoy for Afghanistan, reported on the country to the UN Security Council on Tuesday night.
Following this, members of the UN Security Council stated that they supported the Afghan peace process and did not support the return of the Taliban regime.
