Alaa al-Sadiq, a prominent Emirati dissident, was killed in a car crash in London on Sunday.
Emirati opposition sources reported the death of Alaa al-Sadiq, executive director of the Al-Qast Institute for Human Rights in London, in a car accident.
Al-Jazeera’s website reported that Alaa al-Siddiq worked for Emirati prisoners in the ward, including his father, who has been in prison since 2012 for his human rights activities.
He also lived in Qatar for some time and then received political asylum from the British government. He had recently requested to return to his country.
In this regard, some have considered the accident of this famous Emirati activist suspicious and have called for an investigation into this incident.
“While we have no reason to suspect al-Siddiq’s death, British authorities must assure us that no crime has taken place,” wrote Sarah Lee Whitson, the Middle East and North Africa lawyer and director of Human Rights Watch. Has not given. “Given that the governments of the UAE and Saudi Arabia are closely monitoring the activists and putting pressure on them.”
Emirati human rights activist Dr. Mohammed al-Mukhtar al-Shanqiti also wrote on his Twitter page that he was killed when a car collided with Alaa al-Siddiq and that the type of accident resembled a criminal act.
UAE officials have not yet responded to the news, 24 hours after the death of Alaa al-Sadiq.
