Islamabad :
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that if women wear very short clothes, it will affect men as long as they are not robots, I mean it is common sense that if your society is such that people have not seen such things so it will affect them.
In an interview with an American streaming website, Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke openly about Pakistan-US relations, Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan, and the Kashmir issue, as well as justice for Uighur Muslims in China.
In the same program, when the interviewing journalist asked the Prime Minister about his past statement linking rape to obscenity, he said, “This is nonsense. I did not say that I was behind the scenes. The concept of the veil is to avoid sedition in the society.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is a completely different society. “If you cultivate strife in the society and these young people have no other way to go, it will have repercussions,” he said.
The question was asked, “Do you think that what women wear has any effect? Is it part of the fitna?” The Prime Minister said, “If women wear very short clothes, it will affect men. That they are robots, I mean common sense that if your society is such that where people have not seen such things, it will affect them.
When the journalist recalled his past as an international cricket star, the Prime Minister said, “It’s not about me, it’s about my society, my priority is what is the attitude of my society so when we see that If sex crimes have increased so much we will sit down and talk about stopping it, it is affecting my society.
He is being criticized on social media for his response to Prime Minister Imran Khan, and politicians and social leaders, including well-known journalists, have been seen criticizing him. The trend also came to the top.
On the PM’s statement, senior journalist Musharraf Zaidi tweeted without naming him that it was a common issue, which does not require a feminist or a PhD in gender studies to understand.
He wrote that what kind of rational argument is there that the environment is provided to the rape accused to do the said act? He wrote that saying so shows the intentions of the rape accused to acquit them of their act.
TV host Gharida Farooqi also condemned the PM’s statement, saying that women’s clothing was not the cause of “rape, violence, exploitation and any other such crime”.
He wrote that this statement justifies the rape of men and rape accused and at the same time it shows the accusation against the victims.
Journalist Reema Omar also condemned the statement of the Prime Minister and termed it as regrettable. She wrote that she was saddened to hear the statement of the Prime Minister blaming the victims instead of the perpetrators of sexual violence.
It is to be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier had a controversial discussion on rape incidents on which he would have faced severe criticism.
He linked nudity or women’s bold clothing to ‘rape’ incidents in response to a question about the rising number of rape cases in the country, answering questions from the public on the telephone on April 4 this year.
Imran Khan did not explicitly say that women’s bold clothing is the cause of rape, but he linked nudity and obscenity to such incidents.
