According to the Prime Minister’s House, a meeting chaired by Imran Khan was briefed on the use of electronic voting machine in the election process in the country. Using the machine is the only option.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz, Leader of the House in the Senate Senator Dr Shehzad Wasim, Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib and Advisor to the Prime Minister Babar Awan.
The Prime Minister was given a detailed briefing on the progress made so far in the use of electronic voting machine and legislation in electoral reforms.
Prime Minister Imran Khan directed for transparency in the use of electronic voting machine in the electoral process and fulfillment of all constitutional requirements and said that the present government was committed to ensuring transparency in the electoral process of the country.
He said that the use of electronic voting machine is the only option to prevent fraud and ensure transparency in the electoral process. He said that overseas is an asset of Pakistan and we must include them in the electoral process.
Imran Khan directed the ministers and party leaders to complete the electoral reforms, electronic voting and voting process for overseas Pakistanis as soon as possible.
It should be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan has said before that the use of electronic voting machines and technology is the only solution to maintain the credibility of the election.
He invited the opposition to sit with us and choose from the EVM models that are available to us to restore the credibility of the elections.

The Prime Minister said that for a year now we have been demanding the opposition to cooperate with us and help in reforming our existing electoral system.
“Our government is committed to reforming our electoral system through technology and strengthening our democracy to restore transparency and credibility in elections,” Imran Khan said.
It may be recalled that in early May, President Dr. Arif Alvi had approved a Presidential Ordinance under which the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would be bound to procure Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Overseas Pakistanis will be eligible to exercise their right to vote.
