Russia and Pakistan have signed an agreement on the construction of gas pipeline transfering gas called Pakistan Stream , the Ministry of Energy said.
Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov and Pakistani Ambassador to the Russian Federation Shafkat Ali Khan signed a protocol amending the October 16, 2015 intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a gas pipeline in Pakistan.
Under the agreement, a gas pipeline with a length of more than 1.1 thousand kilometers will be built to transport up to 12.3 billion cubic meters of gas annually to the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in southern Pakistan and Punjab in the north.
The Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Nikolai Shulginov said that the construction of the Pakistan gas pipeline is still the most prominent project of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Pakistan in the energy sector, both countries give high priority to this project.
“The relevant units of our countries have done a lot of work to prepare this agreement, the signing of which will allow our companies to start the practical implementation of the project in the very near future, thus helping the Pakistani side,” he said.
