Indian authorities imposed a severe curfew in occupied Kashmir in response to a call for a strike by Hurriyat leaders, which prevented Friday prayers from being offered in several mosques in the valley.
According to details, the occupying administration in Occupied Kashmir today tightened curfew and restrictions to prevent people from marching towards the Martyrs’ Shrine in Srinagar and holding prayers, due to which Friday prayers could not be offered anywhere in the valley.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the call for holding marches and prayer ceremonies was made by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman Hurriyat Forum, to pay homage to prominent freedom fighters Mirwaiz Maulvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and Martyrs of Houl on the anniversary of their martyrdom. The occupying administration had deployed a large number of Indian military, paramilitary and police personnel in other cities and towns, including Srinagar, to check the movement of people.
Indian forces did not allow journalists to cover the ground situation in the downtown area of Srinagar. The administration also kept Mir Aziz Umar Farooq under house arrest on Friday on the anniversary of his father’s martyrdom. Illegally under house arrest since 2019.
Due to strict restrictions, Friday prayers could not be offered at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar, Hazrat Bill Dargah and other mosques, dargahs and imambargahs in the occupied territories.
Meanwhile, party spokesperson Hurriyat Conference chief Ghulam Muhammad Nago in a statement issued from Srinagar paid tributes to the people and their leaders and mourners who were brutally martyred by Indian agencies and their uniformed agents in 1990 and 2002. He condemned Modi’s fascist Indian government for imposing strict curfews and sanctions to stop him from doing so.
He said that Kashmiris could not be diverted from the path of independence by such tactics.
