Muhammad Ashraf Sahrai, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Occupied Kashmir and chairman of the Tehreek e Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir died in an Indian jail in Jammu.
According to details, Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai was 77 years old and was suffering from various ailments, while he was detained in Adhampur Jail, Jammu under the Black Law Public Safety Act. He was not taken to a doctor for treatment and was rushed to a hospital the previous day when his chances of survival were slim. His family was told of his deteriorating health.
It should be noted that Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai served Syed Ali Shah Gilani as his right hand man all his life. He was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami. He fought tirelessly against the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India. Supporter, Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai was a staunch freedom fighter and he also sacrificed the life of his son Junaid Sahrai in the struggle for independence. Junaid Sahrai was martyred on May 19, 2020 while fighting with Indian troops.
Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in a statement called for a complete strike tomorrow and appealed to the pro-independence Kashmiri people to make the strike a success.
The Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Movement has asked the Kashmiri people to arrange the funeral prayers of the deceased in absentia in their respective mosques tomorrow. Several Hurriyat organizations have also appealed to the people to arrange funeral prayers for the deceased in absentia. Indian police have arrested several Hurriyat leaders including Ashiq Hussain Nar and Riaz Ahmed Mir from Islamabad Town to quell the protests.
It may be recalled that Kashmiri detainees in jails are being subjected to the worst forms of torture and systematic killings through lack of medical treatment, adequate food and environment, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and the relatives of the deceased continue to They were demanding his release as his health was always a concern but the Indian government did not release him despite knowing about his health which led to his death in prison.
