Commenting on Damascus’ first official reaction to relations with Saudi Arabia, the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon welcomed any reconsideration of Riyadh’s stance on Syria.
According to Rai Al-Youm, in Syria’s first official reaction and comment on relations with Saudi Arabia, Syria stated that it welcomes any plan or initiative in which there is a responsible review because it wants its brothers and Saudi Arabia is a brother country.
Ali Abdul Karim Ali, the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon, called Saudi Arabia a dear and brotherly country and said that Syria welcomes any step towards strengthening Syrian-Arab relations.
Speaking after meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Charbel Wahba, he took this position in response to a question about the opening of a new phase in relations between his country and Saudi Arabia.
The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon, referring to the media discussion about the Saudi review of its positions in some cases, added: “Syria welcomes any plan that includes a responsible review because it tends to its brothers and Saudi Arabia is a brother country.” And it is dear, and every step in favor of Arab-Arab relations is welcomed by Syria.
He added: “Many are reconsidering their positions towards Syria, and this shows the correctness of their position.” Syria welcomes all plans that lead to greater security in their countries.
Welcoming any Saudi reconsideration of his wrong positions, the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon said: “Syria welcomes this issue and is happy about it because it shows its strength, vision and correct position.”
