ISLAMABAD: Giving a media briefing in Islamabad, Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health, said that the process of providing vaccines to people above 40 years of age has started and registration was started last week. The government aims to have 70 million Pakistanis vaccinated against corona by the end of this year.
He said the government had started talks with Gavi in July last year when no vaccine had been developed.
He said the ECC had approved کروڑ 150 million on November 30, which was approved by the cabinet on December 1, and that no vaccine had been approved in the world at that time.

He said that by the end of June this year, 19 million food items would be procured, of which 90 per cent would be procured.
“We are not relying on donations alone,” he said. “The government has so far signed contracts for 30 million doses of the vaccine.”
“In the current population of Pakistan, there are about 100 million people eligible for vaccination, the rest are under 18 years of age and most vaccines are registered for those over 18 years of age,” he said.
“We want to vaccinate 70 million people by the end of the year, and given the agreements reached by June, the government is satisfied with that goal,” he said.
He said that the demand for vaccines around the world is high and the production is low due to which even some of the richest countries have had to slow down their vaccination campaign but even in this situation the government is succeeding in providing vaccinations to the people.
Dr Faisal Sultan said that “many vaccine-making countries have banned the export of vaccines”.
