Describing the situation of the Zionist regime last year and this year, the Palestinian Studies Center predicted that domestic and global developments would reduce the regime’s oppression in 2021 and strengthen the Palestinian struggle.
The Center for Strategic Studies “Madar”, whose office is located in Ramallah, in a report, examined the developments in occupied Palestine in 2020 and 2021.
According to the report, the developments in the Israeli regime show a contradictory picture; On the one hand, this regime appears as a powerful government, as if it is a large regional power, but on the other hand, it is a crisis-ridden government from within, especially since the results of the recent elections on March 23, 2021, which was the fourth election in two years. It deepened the regime because the “camp” of Benjamin Netanyahu’s supporters or the camp of his opponents failed to win enough seats in the Knesset (parliament) to form a small and stable coalition, and there is even a scene of a fifth election.
According to the report, the Israeli regime did not face any strategic threat to its existence last year (2020) and moved freely at the political and security level in the regional environment, but on the other hand, the coronavirus, along with the political crisis, is an internal strategic threat. It could weaken government trust and distrust it, so the “Israeli internal system” became, for the first time, a source of threats and dangers that could affect internal security.
The report of the Palestinian Center identifies three factors in shaping the scene and controlling the rhythm of the Israeli regime’s internal, external, and regional relations; “The presence of Donald Trump in the US presidency in the election year, the continuation of the domestic political crisis and the outbreak of the corona”; But with the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, these factors changed, including the fact that after the vaccine was injected, the Israeli regime achieved good results in controlling the corona, Trump’s term ended, and Joe Biden replaced him, moreover, Israel was declared criminal by the International Criminal Court and investigations into Israeli war crimes in the Palestinian territories were begun.
The report goes on to predict that these developments will have important implications for the Israeli regime’s policy on the Palestinian issue in the future and will reduce Israeli bullying in 2020 to some extent. Among the factors that led to this bullying were the Trump administration, Israel’s technological and military superiority, and some other issues, such as the weak strategic position of the Arab states, the Palestinian conflict, the regional strategic position, the war axes, and Israel’s alliance with peripheral countries in Europe.
At the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, the Palestinian Center for Oriental Studies wrote that some factors had changed slightly by the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021; The Israeli regime seems to be moving out of the Corona crisis, but on the other hand, it is moving towards a crisis in the political arena, given the election results; On the foreign front, Donald Trump’s tumultuous term is over and the presidency of the United States has passed to the Democratic Party. On the other hand, the International Criminal Court has made an important decision to start an investigation into war crimes in the Palestinian territories, which means that the opportunity for the Palestinians to fight and move towards the end of the occupation may be strengthened.
